San Francisco part 2 The end of the road!!

We are home safe and sound. We arrived at around 12:40 this am...tired but still excited from all of the AMAZING things we have seen. We ended our trip on such a high in San Francisco. Ethan was an incredible host, taking us on a hike on MT. Tam and through the Redwoods. We saw the seals in Fisherman's Wharf and we had fun running on the beach on Crissy Field. The weather was unseasonably spectacular. On Sunday night, Palmer brought cupcakes to a great fish restaurant in Sausalito and we threw Olivia a proper birthday party with the Weiss's and the Cahans.

We are sad the trip has ended, but are hopeful that the memories we have created will be lasting for the children. We know they will be for us!! We will post the last of the pics in SF. Some video will come later.

San Francisco part 1 Happy Birthday Olivia!

We decided to forgo the train ticket for our ride up the California coast and rent a 15 passenger van instead. We stopped in Montecito for lunch, ate dinner in Big Sur at Nepenth (thanks Ethan for the rec) and arrived in SF after midnight last night. Happy birthday Olivia!!! She had a wonderful bday. Our friend Alice Cahan gave us a ride to the ferry for Alcatraz. The kids loved the tour. It was a GORGEOUS day, so they were able to see the beautiful views from the boat and the island. We met up with Uncle Ethan for lunch, a hike on the beach and then a fantastic Burmese dinner, followed by birthday ice cream on Ethan!! We finished off the evening by taking a stroll through Chinatown. It was a GREAT day!! We are off to Marin tomorrow.

LA

LA was a blast. We were hosted by the amazing Dunn family who are staying at a fabulous pad in Pacific Palisades. The house had a pool, tennis court and three giant tree swings. It was like camp. We went to the beach in Santa Monica, ate great food, saw Olivia and Gwennie's Aunt, uncle and cousin... We even saw Michael Jackson's house. We love LA!!

Grand Canyon Pix

Grand Canyon Pix

Grand Canyon

Everything happens for a reason....The Grand Canyon Railway Hotel was a huge success. Everyone was helpful and kind and the kids took one day to just play in the pool and relax. On day 2, we took a shuttle about 70 miles into the spectacular Grand canyon. Pictures don't do it justice, but we will post some anyway. We saw beautiful views of the south rim and then we went to the Imax for more views. We left Williams at 9:30 pm last night and we are now in sunny LA with the Dunn family. will post LA tomorrow.

More Santa Fe and more...

Hello Again...

Sorry it's taken so long to post...been a bit hectic. Here are some pictures from Santa Fe. We had a short but great time, depsite the kid's eyes being burned in the indoor pool at the Econo Lodge. The train ride to Williams, AZ was loooooooong and unfortunately when we arrived at 10:30 pm, we were told that our hotel in the Grand Canyon was 1 hour away. So....we decided to stay in Williams and we will visit the Grand Canyon tomorrow. We will touch base again from LA.

St. Louis Arch

24 hours later...

We had our first overnight on the Southwest Chief...left St, Louis at 4, got to Kansas City by 10, switched trains and ended up in Santa Fe at 3:00 this afternoon. We went into town, walked all around, had dinner at a local tex mex restaurant. We listened to some live music which was great. Only mishap has been allowing our kids to swim in the hotel pool which was WAY over-chlorinated. They have been complaining ALL night! We will check in tomorrow. xoxo

Meet Me in St. Louis

We left Chicago at 9:30 am on the Lincoln Service to St. Louis...6 1/2 hours later we arrived with 16 bags and no plan. We headed towards the hotel which is right beneath the Arch...quite beautiful. The children spent a good deal of time unwinding in the pool. We went to the Steak and Shake for dinner (service was less than desirable...good thing Poppy was not there) and then went to the Muny (an outdoor ampitheater) to see a production of "Meet Me in St. Louis." The theater was beautiful and the show was spectacular. Everyone in St. Louis is beyond friendly. We basically hitchhiked from the Stake and Shake due to the fact that we were unable to get a cab. A lovely couple with a minivan took pity on us, and gave us a ride to the Muny. The children are fast asleep and snoring. We will check in tomorrow!!! xoxo
